Virgin Mobile is running an interesting promotion to get people to buy their newly-launched LG Optimus Elite . They’re giving $25 of Google Wallet credit to use at participating retailers and shops. This is no doubt a promotion to highlight the device’s NFC chip and to encourage users to try out mobile payments, a fairly new field of technology for American consumers.

Starting on Friday, T-Mobile will be throwing another one of their “Magenta Deal Days” BOGO promotions. New or existing T-Mobile customers with an available upgrade can take advantage of T-Mobile’s buy-one-get-one deal on some of the hottest 4G phones T-Mo has available. Simply buy two phones — yup, you’re going to have to fork out the cash for both up front — and T-Mobile will reimbursed for the second via a mail-in rebate.

AT&T confirmed this past weekend that Baton Rouge would be getting 4G LTE, but didn’t bother to offer a time frame other than “soon.” We’ve gotten a couple of independent reports that the network is live today, though we haven’t been able to find much more than that. It’s strange that AT&T would launch the network in that market without an announcement so we assume they’re just testing the network and allowing anyone who notices to hop on. It’s not unlike what usually happens with Verizon’s rollouts as users sometimes report coverage up to a week in advance of Verizon’s official launch date.

ASUS is ramping up for the launch of the long-awaited Padfone three-in-one concept. The gem of Mobile World Congess, the phone within a tablet within a laptop promises to be one of the most intriguing device rollouts in a long while, but it remains to be seen if the concept catches on with the general public. ASUS is at least looking for the Padfone to catch on with business users, and is already looking ahead to a Padfone 2.

The latest research from NPD Group is showing big gains for Android during the first quarter of 2012 at the expense of the mobile operating systems biggest rival. Android, which dipped to 49 percent towards the end of 2011 , weathered an iOS surge brought about by the release of the iPhone 4S to reach a dominating 61 percent share of the market. Apple’s iOS saw a drop from a 49 percent share during Q4 2011 to hold less than a third of the market in Q1 2012 at 29 percent

An interesting message has popped up recently for those who purchased Rock Band on iOS. The game, published by EA, is apparently going to be unplayable the last day of this month, and it’s not by accident.
